WHAT IS SOLIDS CONTROL?

Solids control is the process of separating solid particles, like rock cuttings, from the drilling fluid used in oil and gas operations. This step is critical for maintaining fluid properties and reducing waste.

RIG SHAKERS

Drilling rig shakers use a vibrating screen (shale shaker) to remove large drill cuttings from the mud returning from the wellbore. This prevents oversized solids from reaching downstream equipment and starts the separation process.
HYDROCYCLONES Hydrocyclones (such as desanders and desilters) apply centrifugal force to separate medium and fine solids. Heavier particles are pushed outward and removed, while cleaner fluid moves forward in the system.
DRYING SHAKERS Drying shakers with fine-mesh shaker screens further reduce the retained liquid on the cuttings. This step recovers valuable drilling fluid and lowers the liquid volume that must be disposed of, improving both efficiency and compliance.
